Reconditioning can be a cost-effective alternative to replacing. 

The worn surface of the pressure plate can be machined or ground down to restore its flatness and ensure proper clamping force. 

In more severe cases, the pressure plate may be rebuilt by replacing worn or damaged parts, such as springs or diaphragms.
